New Golf Amenities Support Active Living

Residents at The Birches on Maple have a new way to stay active, enjoy the outdoors and connect with neighbors thanks to the addition of a putting green and golf practice area.

The new space features a putting green with four holes and two practice bays, creating opportunities for residents of all skill levels to enjoy the game. Since opening, the area has quickly become a popular gathering place, with residents stopping by daily to practice their swing, spend time outside and socialize with friends.

For retired Tanner Health physician Denis Morin, MD, and his wife, Louise, the addition felt like a natural fit for the community they have long supported and called home.

"A lot of residents play golf and enjoy coming here a few times a week to hit some balls or spend time on the putting green," said Louise Morin. "Even for those who aren’t golfers, it sparks curiosity and gives them another reason to get outside, stay active and spend time with neighbors.”

The golf amenities align with The Birches on Maple's commitment to healthy living and healthy aging by encouraging movement, recreation and social engagement. The new area also complements the community's emphasis on outdoor spaces and natural surroundings.

"Healthy living and healthy aging go hand in hand with what The Birches on Maple is all about," said Dr. Morin. "We have a lot of green space here, and this contributes to that philosophy. It gives residents another opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and spend time together."

Constructed with low-maintenance artificial turf designed to remain attractive for years to come, the space provides residents with a year-round destination for recreation.

The Morins helped bring the project to life through a gift to Tanner Health Foundation after proposing the idea and recognizing its potential to benefit residents.

"Tanner and Carrollton in general have been very generous to us," said Dr. Morin. "The goal of Tanner Health is to help people live longer and improve their quality of life. We enjoy being able to participate in that goal and bring something meaningful to the community."

"We hope the golf area becomes one more reason people choose to be part of this community," said Dr. Morin. "It's a small addition that we believe can make a meaningful difference in residents' quality of life."

Future plans for the space include a pavilion where residents can gather and socialize, as well as friendly putting competitions and additional golf features as interest grows, with room available for future expansion based on the community's needs and interests.
